Taurine (Tau) as an additive is widely used in functional food and has important bioeffects. To study the protective effects of taurine in genotoxicity of heavy metal, this article chooses cadmium chloride (CdCl2) as the subject. Firstly, we studied the LD50 in mice with intraperitoneal injection of CdCl2. The LD50 was 5.2047 mg/㎏; The LD50 of Tau+Cd was 4.3291㎎/㎏. Secondly, on the condition of preinjured with taurine, mice were given CdCl2 0.70, 1.35, 2.70 mg/㎏b.w. intraperitoneally. We checked the rate of polychromatic erythrocytes with micronuclei (MPCE). The results showed that the rate of MPCE increased significantly (P<0.01) when CdCl2 was 0.07 mg/㎏b.w.. The rates of MPCE of CdCl2+Tau groups were 4.75‰,5.13‰,5.63‰ respectively, and were significantly decreased compared with the rates of CdCl2 groups which were 6.75‰,10.88‰,11.13‰. The reductions were 41.07﹪,63.89﹪,59.46﹪. It meant that taurine had good effects in protecting the integrity of chromosomes which were injured by CdCl2. Then on the same condition of preinjured with taurine, mice were given CdCl2 0.50, 1.00 mg/㎏b.w. intraperitoneally. We checked the rate of abnormalities of sperm. The results showed that rates of abnormalities of sperm of CdCl2 groups were increased significantly compared with control; the rates of CdCl2+Tau groups were 27.13‰,30.57‰ relatively, and were significantly decreased compared with the rates of CdCl2 groups which were 40.88‰,59.00‰. So taurine had protective effects to the sperms which were injured by CdCl2. Using single cell gel electrophoresis assay (SCGE) tested the breaks of DNA of testicular cell. The rate of tailed DNA of CdCl2 group was 12.5﹪, which significantly increased compared control 4.2﹪. The rate of tailed DNA of CdCl2+Tau group (8.7﹪) was significantly decreased compared with the rate of CdCl2 group. It showed that taurine could decrease the breaks of DNA injured by CdCl2. Finally, using atomic absorption spectrophotometer studied the change of elements (Cd, Zn, Cu) in liver and testicle. Sacrificed 24 hours after injured with CdCl2, Cd concentrations increased significantly in CdCl2 group and CdCl2+Tau group compared with control; Cd, Cu and Zn concentrations increased significantly in liver in CdCl2+Tau group compared with CdCl2 group; Cd concentrations decreased significantly in testis in CdCl2+Tau group (0.539μg / g) compared with CdCl2 group (0.683μg / g). Tau group had not significantly changes. Sacrificed 30 days after injured with CdCl2, Cd, Cu and Zn concentrations increased significantly in liver in CdCl2 group and CdCl2+Tau group compared with control; Cd and Zn concentrations increased significantly in CdCl2+Tau group compared with CdCl2 group. Cd concentrations decreased significantly in testis in CdCl2+Tau group compared with CdCl2 group. Taurine could increase Cd concentration in liver and decrease it in testicle relatively.
