Excessive abrasion on the occlusive surface of artificial teeth in removable denture may lead to lower masticatory efficiency after being used a long time. At the same time, excessive abrasion can reduce the vertical dimension in basifacial 1/3 and may bring some negative effects in aesthetics to the patients. Nanometer amorphous diamond film is the newest product of diamond like carbon (DLC) films. The film has high hardness, low modulus of elasticity, chemical inertness and low coefficient of friction and has been used on metal substrates. The film can be deposited under 80癈 and It can be used in more fields. In order to apply nanometer amorphous diamond film in the prosthodontics field, the biocompatibility of the nanometer amorphous diamond film and the adhesion of the film on acrylic denture resins substrates were studied in this disquisition. The biocompatibility of the nanometer amorphous diamond film was assessed by three different tests that included vitro cytotoxicity test, haemolysis test and short-term systemic toxicity test. All the tests were performed in accordance with the international standard (ISO) or Chinese standards. After parallel pretreatment with ultraviolet radiation and polarization, heatcuring denture acrylic-3-resins substrates were deposited with nanometer amorphous diamond film. To find out a feasible pretreatment, adhesion of nanometer amorphous diamond film on heatcuring acrylic resins substrates was measured by scratch test. The film was observed by scanning electric microscopy (SEM) and was analyzed by laser Raman spectroscopy. The main results of the study was follows:1. It was proved that the film used in the study was nanometer amorphous diamond film.2. Nanometer amorphous diamond film has no toxicity to human body and no harm to health.3. Nanometer amorphous diamond film can be deposited on acrylic resin substrates. Polarization is the better pretreatment to improve the adhesion of nanometer amorphous diamond film on heatcuring acrylic resins substrates than ultraviolet radiation.4. The adhesion of 50nm film is better than that of l00nm film. In a conclusion, the nanometer amorphous diamond film is a kindof material with favorable blocompatibility and can be used as a kind of dental material. It can be deposited on acrylic resin substrates. Polarization can improve adhesion of the film on artificial tooth resins substrates. Mezzo thickness is important. A thicker film is not always better than a thinner one. Studies tested the nanometer amorphous diamond film can be used in prosthodontics filed.
