Objective: To study the efficiency of SiO2 nanometer grains on the intensity and toughness of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture resin base plate materials. According to different rations, add divergenced SiO2 nanometer grains into the PMMA denture base plate materials and make into standard samples to assay the changes of the bending strength and tension strength of the samples in order to solve the defects of the PMMA base resin which is of great friability, easy broken and aging and improve the denture effect in clinic.Method: Through Insitu polymerization method, mix SiO2 nanometer grains into MMA. According to the traditional method of making manufacture denture in clinic, make standard samples of denture base resin compound materials of different concentrations of SiO2 nanometer grains. Then measure the bending strength and tension strength of the samples using electron almighty testing machine, then analyze the result using statistic methods so as to provide theoretical basement for the clinical application.Results:1.Bending strength: Adding SiO2 nanometer grains into PMMA base resin, the bending strength of the denture base plate resin compound materials of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% (SiO2 /PMMA mass ratio) increases 58.95%, 67.96%, 71.83%, 25.25% compared with the common PMMA denture base resin material, the bending strength is obviously improved by statisticanalysis.( P<0.01 ).2.Tension strength: Adding SiO2 nanometer grains into PMMA base resin, the tension strength of the denture base plate resin compound materials of 1% (SiO2 /PMMA mass ratio) has no statistical significant differences ( P>0.05 ). Adding SiO2 nanometer grains into PMMA base resin, the tension strength of the denture base plate resin compound materials of 2% , 3%, 4% (SiO2/PMMA mass ratio) increases 7.03%, 7.97%, 7.76%, the tension strength is obviously improved by statistic analysis. ( P<0.05 ).Conclusions:1. The rigidity and abridgement are improved when nanometer inorganic particles are filled in polymer materials. Filling SiO2 nanometer grains into the PMMA materials, the rigidity, size stability and heat stability of the inorganic materials are integrated with the ductility, easy-processing ability and insulation ability of the polymer. The denture base plate resin nanometer compound materials can acquire outstanding performances.2. Adding SiO2 nanometer grains into PMMA base resin, the bending strength of the denture base plate resin compound materials of 3% (SiO2 /PMMA mass ratio) increases 71.83%. The tension strength of the denture base plate resin compound materials of 3% (SiO2/PMMA mass ratio) increases 7.97%. The best ratio of PMMA/SiO2 still need further study.
