Objective To study the effects of intravesical instillation of Brucea Javanica oil emulsion on the prevention of postoperative reccurrence of transitional cell carcinoma of bladder (BTCC) and compared with other drugs at the same time, including Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG), mitomycin C, etc. We also investigated the effects of intravesical instillation of Brucea Javanica oil emulsion on Erythrocyte immunologic system in patients sufferded from bladder cancer.-4-Methods 63 cases of bladder carcinoma were treated by operations with reserved bladder including TURBT and partial cystectomy. After surgical management, intravesical instillation therapy with Brucea Javanica oil emulsion and instillations of other drugs were used to prevent tumor recurrence. The red blood cell Cab receptor rate(C3bRR) > Immune complex rate(ICR), Complement receptor immune regulation enhance factors(RFER), Complement receptor immune regulation inhiditor factors (RFIR), Enhance tumor erythrocyte rossette(ETER), Associated tumor erythrocyte rossette(ATER) and Natural tumor erythrocyte rossette(NTER) were detected in 30 cases of patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma during perioperation period, who were treated by conservative bladder operations including TURBT and partial cystectomy. After surgical management intravesical instillation therapy with Brucea javanica oil emulsion was used to prevent tumor recurrence. Twenty healthy men were detected as control group. Results Follow-up showed the recurrence rate was 19.0% in the Brucea Javanica oil emulsion instillation group, which was smaller than those of the instillations of other drugs (p<0.05). Another benefit for patients was that the side effects of Brucea Javanica oil emulsion instillation were very mild. Before operation, C3bRR, RFER, ETER, ATER, NTER were lower in the bladder transitional cell carcinoma group than those of the control group. Meanwhile ICR, RFIR were significantly increased. Erythrocyte function rose when patients was instillated with Brucea Javanica oil emulsion and got the peak value at 2-month after operation. Conclusion Intravesical instillation of Brucea Javanica oil emulsion,-5-with better curative effects and less side effects, is a favorable choice for the prevention of postoperative recurrence of bladder cancer. Patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma show lower erythrocyte function when compared with the control group. Intravesical instillation of Brucea Javanica oil emulsion can improve erythrocyte function of patients.
