The onset rate of Cutaneous Carcinoma (CC) is increasing rapidly worldwide due to the environmental pollution, damage of ozone layer and change of life style .The rate in whites is No.1 in the rank of all the malignancies. CC is becoming a serious socio and medical problem. Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma (CMM) is especially with poor prognosis. In recent years, the increasing rate of CMM among the malignancies is the most rapid, For example, CMM is the most common carcinoma but lung Carcinoma in female whites. The percentage of CMM in nonwhites is relatively rare, and the clinical, pathological and biological features of it are somehow different from those in whites, namely acral site is the most dominant primary one. Compared with other races' datum on CC, the incidence in Chineses is very rare, especially for the datum without a long time span, different regions, a large number of cases. At the same time, the socio-enviromental condition in china has changed greatly, for lately 20 years. How do the onset rate, etiology factors and epidemiology of CC in China especially western of china? The answer to it will be helpful for us to improve clinical, basic research and prevention.By now, there are still controversy on Congenital Small Nevi (CSN) and trauma related to CMM and current classification's clinical and pathological, biological and molecular marker meaning among scholars. In our practice, we have found that CSN and trauma are closely related to CMM, there is considerable percentage of CMM which can not classified, pathologically, namely a specimen with two kinds classifications' patterns. All of theses are in the way of enlightening of CMM.AIM: Basing on those reasons, we selected two general hospitals, which are representatively from southwest and northwest of china. The in and out patients suffering from Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), Squamous Cell arcinoma (SCC) and CMM are refrigerated to review the clinical features and tendency of incidences. And we focused on the CSN and trauma's relationship with CMM, and practical meaning of current classification. There are 3 important or advantaged characters in the study. The first is the period span is very long, during the time span, the society and environment conditions have been greatly changed in china. The second is cases from different regions where there are different clinical patterns even for the same tumor .The third is the hospitals from which the cases are collected, are very good representatives of the cutaneous malignant tumors' patterns, namely, a large amount of cases, extensive range of the region, comprehensive abnormalities. The fourth is the amount of cases collected is large enough, compared to similar study.METHODS: The CC cases are from two general hospitals in northwest and southwest of china from January 1st 1981 to December 31st 2000 year. The clinical data of patients (sex, primary anatomical site. Age and pathological diagnosis) are required. The CMM's clinical datum of patient(sex, primary, anatomical sites, age, staging, and risk factors such as congenital small/giant nevi, trauma, and so on) are required (305 cases confirmed pathologically, primarily arising from skin, 185 cases with adequate pathological datum).Pathological diagnosis criterion is referred to Clark et al and Arrington et al.Pathological data include tumor invasive level (Clark), differentiation (low, modest and high), abnormal mitiosis (less 2, 2 to 10, and more than10 mitiosis in consecutive 10 fields of 400 modification), and classification: in situ, Lentigo Maligna Melanoma (LMM), Acral Lentiginous Melanoma (ALM), Nodular Melanoma (NM), Superficial Spreading Melanoma (SSM) and Unidentified Malignant Melanoma (UM).Software with which the data are analyzed is from SPSS 10.0; confident interval: 95%; statistics methods: crosstabs and t test.RESULTS: A collection of 2373 cases with CC was done. The ratio of male versus female is 1.5:1.0.The age is 54.0±16.0 year, the common age range from 31 to 70 years. The percentage of CC o...
