ObjeciveTo investigate the associated relation between serum vascular endothelial growth factor concentration(S-VEGF) and clinical characters in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL) patients. Patients and methodsS-VEGF was measured by Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay(ELISA)in 67 randomly selected adult patients with NHL who were diagnosed and treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. ResultsS-VEGF concentration of NHL patients was higher than that of healthy adults(p=0.03). S-VEGF concentration in newly diagnosed and relapse NHL patients was higher than that of remission ones(both p<0.001),but no any difference was found between newly diagnosed patients and relapse ones(p=0.837). S-VEGF concentration in NHL patients with high-grade histological classification was higher than that with low-grade(p<0.001),but there were no difference in the different subtypes of the same histological classifications(p=0.62 or 0.75). Patients in stage III or IV were of higher value of S-VEGF than that of ones in stage I or II(p=0.04).There were no statistical difference about S-VEGF concentration in different gender, age, B-symptoms or not and T or B cell lymphocytic subtype(p=0.53,0.50,0.27 and 0.64). Compared with normal serum lactic dehydrogenase(S-LDH) ones, S-VEGF levels inNHLpatients of higher S-LDH were elevated (p=0.002).S-VEGF level significantly correlated with S-LDH levers(p=0.04). S-VEGF concentration of NHL patients with higher β2- microglobulin(β2-MG) was higher than that with lower β2-MG ones(p=0.003),but no correlation was found between S-VEGF and (32-MG(p= 0.334).S-VEGF correlated with platelet counts(p=0.023), but not with white blood cell(p=0.471), hemoglobin(p=0.646). ConclusionS-VEGF of NHL patients was higher than that of healthy adults. S-VEGF concentration was correlated with the outcome of NHL patients.S-VEGF correlated with histological classification and might be of prognostic value in NHL patients. S-VEGF might be released from platelet.
