The herb of Swertia kauitchensis.Franch (Gentianaceae) has been used as a folk remedy of hepatis in southwestern part of China. And the phytochemical investigation has not been reported. In order to clarify its therapentic principles, and to find the posibility of substituting for Swertia mileensis which were exhausted. The isolation of the whole pknt of Swertia kauitchensis was accomplished and 17 monomers were isokted from its ether fraction, EtOAc fraction and water fraction, 14 of them have been identified as follows : oleanolic acid (Ⅰ); fi-sitosterol (Ⅱ); daucosterol (Ⅲ); 1,3,5-trihydroxy -8-methoxyxanthone (Ⅳ); 1-hydroxy -3,7-dimethoxyxanthone (Ⅴ); gentiacaulein (Ⅵ); bellidifolin (Ⅶ); methylswertianin (Ⅷ) ; swertianin (Ⅸ); 1,7-dihydroxy-3,4,8-trimethoxyxanthone (Ⅹ); 1, 3-dihydroxy-5,8-dimethoxyxanthone (Ⅺ); swertrianolin (Ⅻ) ; 1,3,5,8-tetra hydroxyxanthone (); 7-o-[oc- L- rhamnopyranoside- (1-6)-o- β -D -glucopyranoside]-1 ,8-dihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone ( X Ⅳ). These provide basis for its further studies on biological activities. All of these compounds were isolated from this species for the first time, furthermore, the compounds IVand X VI the first time from the genus Swertia.HPLC method of determination of oleanolic acid was established and 14 species of the genus Swertia and related plants were analysed. The mean recovery of Oleanolic acid in Swertia kouitchensis was 102.1%.The reappearance was 1.15%, which met the requirement of quantitative analysis. There were Oleanolic acid in all these 14 kinds of plants' flowers, leaves and stems, in which the content of Oleanolic acid was highest in flower, ranging from 0.954% to 1.699%. The content of Oleanolic acid in leaves and stems was next to that in flower, and the difference was notable, ranging from 0.236% to 1.041%. There wasn't Oleanolic acid in root...
