Objective: To study the therapeutic effects of single high-dose per- cutaneous acetic acid injection (PAI) by ultrasound-guided for the rabbits early stage VX2 liver tumor. To explore the feasibility of single high-dose PAI therapy in the child hepatoblastoma. Methods: The VX2 liver tumor animal models were established by implanting the liver of 32 New Zealand rabbits with VX2 tumor. The VX2 tumor-bearing rabbits were divided into 4 groups randomly and each group has 8 cases. The control group hasn't been treated. The other three groups were treated with intravenous chemotherapy with adriamycin, percutaneous adriamycin injection (PADMI) and single high-dose PAI respectively on the 10th day of inoculation. The imaging features of tumor were captured by gray scale imaging and color Doppler imaging synchronously every week. We compared the damage effect of single high-dose PAI therapy for VX2 liver tumor. The contrast-enhanced imaging and second harmonic imaging were performed before and after treatment. The growth rate of tumor was calculated. The survival time and weight changes of each rabbit were recorded. Pathological examination and anatomical example was detected. Results: The rate of successfully establishing the VX2 liver tumor animal model was 100%. Our data indicate that the VX2 liver tumor showed exponential growth, it infiltrated into the normal tissue and the blood supply of tumor was plentiful. The tumor nodes and surrounding normal tissue of the PAI group show a completely necrotic feature. No blood flow was seen in tumor after single high-dose PAI treatment. In the PAI group, tumor decrease in size, and the hepatic tissue surround tumor tended to restitute early, and the survival time of the VX2 tumor-bearing rabbits was prolonged. The results of PAI group was significant difference with the other three groups(P<0.05). The single high-dose PAI is more available than the other three methods. No toxic and side effect were detected after PAI therapy. Conclusion: The VX2 liver tumor is similar to the hepatoblastoma of human beings. Single high-dose PAI treatment was an effective and safe method for intervening ablation tumor, and the goal of local therapy for liver tumor may be easily achieved. Single high-dose PAI was a very hopeful and feasible method for local ablation treatment on the child hepatoblastoma. It has important value and good prospect on treating the children tumors in clinic.
