A Clinical Study On Perioperative Changes Of Oxygen Free Radical In Cancerous Patients

Abstract/Summary:
Objective: To research the perioperative changes of oxygen freeradical in cancerous patients. Methods : 40 patients who suffered from malignant tumor were divided randomly into two groups ( n = 20 patients in each ) : Group A ( epidural anesthesia ) and Group B ( general anesthesia). For the measurement of plasma LPO and erythrocyte SOD, the blood samples were collected at different times : before operation, at the end of operation and at the 7th day after operation . Results: Before operation, the LPO of all patients ( Group A : 15.21 ± 3.65 nmol/ml, Group B : 16.20 ± 2.93 nmol/ml ) exceeded normal range ( 3. 74 ± 0.98 nmol/ml) ( p<0. 05). In both groups the LPO at the end of operation and at the 7th day after operation , were lower than those preoperatively ( p< 0. 05 ), but they were still higher than normal range ( p < 0. 05 ) . Preoperative SOD of all patients were lower than normal range.The increases in SOD at the end of operation and at the 7th day after operation were observed in both groups. But there were no significant differences compared with those preoperatively. Between groups, there were no significant differences in either LPO or SOD at any time point (p>0. 05). Conclusion: There were obvious exacerbation of oxygen free radical reaction in cancerous patients, and removing the malignant tumor may be beneficial for its attenuation. There was no significant difference between epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia in the effect of scavenging oxygen free radical in cancerous patients.
