OBJECTIVE To investigates the effect of ulinastatin on the IL-6/IL-8 and oxygen free radidicals following pulmonary surgery with OLV. METHODS 20 patients with pulmonary resection under OLV were randomly divided into control (n=10) and experiment (n=10) groups (CG and EG). EG were treated with ulinastatin during OLV, and same volume saline intravenous was given in the CG. Before anaesthesia and OLV for 30 minute, 1 h, 2h and post OLV for 1h, 2h and postoperative for 24h, 48h, Artery blood sample were taken to determine the concentration of plasma IL-6 and IL-8. At the same time, the activity of plasma MPO and XOD were detected. RESULTS (1) There was no significant difference in the concetration of IL-6 between CG and EG. (p>0.05) (2) The concetration of IL-8 in EG is lower than CG. (p<0. 01) (3) Compared with the EG, the activity of plasma XOD was markedly increased in the CG. (p<0.01) (4) Compared with the CG, the activity of plasma MPO was markedly decreased in the EG. (p< 0.01) CONCLUSION (1) ulinastatin can't decrease the concetration of IL-6 following pulmonary surgery with OLV, however it can decrease the concetration of IL-8. (2) ulinastatin decrease the oxygen free radidicals following pulmonary surgery with OLV.
