Objective To investigate the treatment in acute necrotizing pancreatitis with Salviae Miltiorrhizae and Tripterygium Wilford II. Methods ANP animal model was established in adult rats which given a single excessive does of L-Arginine (1000mg/100g body weight) by subcutaneous injection. Serum levels of amylase, TNF- α and IL-1 β were measured, and pathological study of pancreas were performed. The severity of pancreatitis was assessed in terms of the levels of amylase , TNF-α and IL-1 3 , and histological changes. Results The serum amylase, TNF-α and IL-1 β of in ANP rats were significantly increased; and histological examination revealed that pancreas were degenerated and necrotized. For the combined use of Salviae Miltiorrhizae and Tripterygium Wilford II, the serum levels of amylase and inflammtory cytokine were markedly decreased, and the damages of pancreas were significantly alleviated . Conclusion The combined use of Salviae Miltiorrhizae and Tripterygium wilford II have a good treatment effect in ANP rat model, and may have clinical implication.
