ObjectiveTo study the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of osteofibrous dysplasia in children.Methods5 Teases of osteofibrous dysplasiawere analysed retrospecticely. 35 of them were male, and others were female, aging from 11 months to 15 years old, mean age 7.9years. Tie lesion of all these cases were located in the long bone of the extremetis, 7 of them were in femur, 49 of them in tibia( or both in tibia and fibula),2 in humerus, 1 in radius and 1 in ulna. 50 cases of these children underwent resection of foci with iliac bone graftor xenoma bone graft. All the operative cases were proved historically. Others were proved by the consultation of pediatric orthopedic doctors and radiologic doctors.ResultsAll the cases were followed up for 1 ~20 years, average 7.9 years and 8 cases were lost. 18 of the 49 cases were recurrent.ConclusionsThe cause and attribution of osteofibrous dysplasia remain unknown. According to the clinical features and image finding, it is not difficult to diagnose. But it should be differentiated from nonossifying fibroma and adamantinoma. Because of the high risk of reccurrence of the children receiving the operations and the tendency of spontaneous cure, we should not regard the operation as the fjrst choice.
