Study Design:The immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of Transforming Growth Factor β1(TGF- β1) , Inducible Nitric Oxid Synthase2(iNOS, NOS2) on the synovial membrane of osteoarthritis respectively, and the results were processed with Spearman rank correlation test. Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the expression rate of TGF -β1 and NOS2 in the synovial membrane of osteoarthritis(OA),and to study the relathonships between the two factors.Summary of background data: TGF - β1 and NOS2 are two most important factors relating to osteoarthritis, but TGF- β1 was mostly reported with chondrocytes, and NOS2 was seldom reported with OA, For their expressions in synovial membrane of OA and their relation to angiogenesis had not been reported yet. Methods: 30 cases of OA synovial membrane were selected at random, with each case cut into 2 section preparations. All section preparations were divided into 2 identical groups, with each group containing each one of the 30 section preparations. The 2 groups of sections were immunohistochemically detected with TGF- β1 and NOS2 respectively, and 8 cases of healthy younger as contrast group. Then using spearman's rank correlation to analysis the results. Results: The expression rates of TGF- β1 and NOS2 were 60%, 13.3% respectively. The correlation coefficient between TGF- β1 and NOS2 were not statistically significant( r s=0.306,p>0.05) Conclusions: The expression of TGF-β1 and NOS2 on the synovial membrane of osteoorthritis was irrelevant. The expression rate of TGF-β1 in osteoarthritis was relatively lower than normal tissues.
