Objective: To investigate the expression of VEGF, bFGF and clinicopathologic significance of MVD in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: 42 cases LSCC with 10 neighboring normal tissues were stained with VEGF,bFGF and CD31 by immunohistochemical method. The expression of VEGF, bFGF and CD31 were analyzed in conjunction with the clinicopathologic features of LSCC.Results: (1)The expression of VEGF and bFGF were located in plasm of tumor cell, the positive rates of VEGF and bFGF were 69.04%(29/42),61.9%(26/42), respectively.(2) The expression of VEGF and bFGF were related to stages of TNM. The positive rate was increased with infiltration of tumor. (3)The expression of VEGF and bFGF in the cancer tissues in group of patient with metastasis to cervical lymph node were statistically higher than that in group without metastasis(P<0.05).(4)The MVD in the cancer tissues in group of patient with metastasis to cervical lymph node were statistically higher than that in group without metastasis(P<0.05).(5)The MVD in the supraglottic were statistically higher than that in the glottic.(6)The MVD in the cancer tissues in group of advanced cases (â…¢,â…£stages)were statistically higher than that in group of early cases (â… ,â…¡stages)(P<0.05).Conclusions:(1) Angiogenesis was located in stroma of tumor.(2) MVD was positively regulated by the expression of VEGF and bFGF, It was suggested that VEGF,bFGF may play an important role in angiogenesis in laryngeal carcinoma and were closely related to invasion, metastasis and recur.(3)The expression of VEGF,bFGF were related to stages of TNM and metastasis to cervical lymph node. 4)The MVD were related to location, stages of TNM, metastasis to cervical lymph node. It was suggested that MVD may be one of prognostic indictors of laryngeal carcinoma.
