Objective This paper was designed to investigate the expressions of p27kipl (p27)protein , cyclinE protein and ki-67 antigen in human renal clear cell carcinoma and in its adjacent tissue of carcinoma , and to explore the relationship between the expression level and clinico-pathological characteristics and prognosis in clear cell carcinoma of kidney cases. Mathods Expressions of p27 protein ,cyclinE protein and ki-67 antigen were studied in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of renal clear cell carcinoma(RCCC) and in its adjacent tissue of carcinoma by means of a specific and sensitive immunohistochemical S-P assay. Results The positive rates of p27 protein ,cyclinE protein and ki-67 antigen in renal cell carcinoma were significantly higher than those of them in its adjacent tissue of carcinoma(P<0.05),and p27 and cyclinE were concurrently expressed in RCCC, whereas p27 and ki-67 were not concurrently expressed in RCCC. There was an inverse relationship between the expression rate of p27 and the histological tumor grades(P<0.01),and the same to cyclinE(P<0.01), whereas ki-67 antigen expressions were correlated with them positively(P<0.01). In RCCC, the negative correlation was found out between p27 protein expression and tumor metastasis(P <0.01),but the inverse to ki-67 antigen. Conclusions P27 ,cyclinE and ki-67 may play an important role in renal tumorgenesis and its metastasis respectively. p27 and cyclinE expression rates are negatively correlated with the malignant degree of RCCC, but the opposite to the expression rate of ki-67, indicating that p27 ,cyclinE and ki-67 might be useful prognostic markers in renal clear cell carcinoma, their expressions may contribute to evaluating the prognosis of patients with RCCC.
