The surface morphology is a main parameter to reflect pathologic biological behavior of neoplasm. The pathologic biological behavior in laryngeal carcinoma remains much difference, but there are few reports about the relation between surface morphology with the pathological-biological behavior and clinic prognosi. We selected 70 patients to study, in order to evaulate the relation between surface morphology with the pathological-biological behavior and their clinical significance.ObjectiveTo evaulate the relation between surface morphology with the pathological-biological behavior and their clinical significance, and to provide some morphology foundations for studying growth, development of laryngeal carcinoma, choi-cing surgical method, predicting effect and preventing relapse.Patients and MethodsWe selected 70 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx at the department of otolaryngology head and neck surgery of the China Medical University between 1994 and 1998. To better analyze the true result, we selected 70 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx. We selected from a large series only cases who had no preoperative radiotheraphy after the first surgical procedure. The other criteria for inclusion in this study was the whole sample, after neck dissection, and a 5-year minimum follow-up.We checked the neoplasm's morphology, size, the depth of ulcer, the ulcer basis's thick, edge behavior and the delimitation between the carcinoma with the laryngeal normal tissue, and then suggested the typing diagnosis. In this study , the surface morphology of laryngeal carcinoma was contrasted according to turner cell's grading, growth mode of turner edge, cervical nodal metastasis.Resultsthe 5-year survival rate of each pattern in laryngeal carcinoma has not statistical significance. Statistic according to two groups, the 5-year survival rate of pushing laryngeal carcinoma is 82. 9% , the infiltrating laryngeal carcinoma is 60.0%.(figurel,2,3)the cell differentiation degree of each pattern in laryngeal carcinoma has not statistical significance. Divide the laryngeal carcinoma into two groups, the cell differentiation degree has the obvious difference. The better cell differentiation of the pushing laryngeal cancer is significantly higher than that of the infiltrating laryngeal cancer. (figure4,5)The growth mode of turner edge in each pattern of laryngeal carcinoma has not statistical significance. Divide the laryngeal carcinoma into two groups, the growth mode of turner edge has the obvious difference, namely the growth increase wickedly along with the infiltrating degree of surface morphologys. ( fig-ure6,7)Divide the laryngeal carcinoma into four patterns or divide into two groups, its lymph node metastasis has the remarkable difference. The lymph node metastasis of infiltrating laryngeal cancer is more serious that of the pushing cancer. (figure8,9)Conclusion1. The gross biological behavior of the laryngeal cancer has very important clinical significance for acting reasonable surgical treatment and predicting prog-nosi.2. The surface morphology of laryngeal carcinoma is a referent parameter to reflect pathologic-biological behavior of neoplasm.3. It has more important clinical significance to divide the laryngeal carcinoma into the pushing cancer and the infiltrating cancer.4. The surface morphology of laryngeal carcinoma has close relation with the clinical prognosi.
