| Objective: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) was officially named by Centers for DiseaseControl andPrevention (CDC)oftheU.S government in 1988. Theincidenceof CFS rises year afteryear, which causes enormous economic losses. It has not been discovered the peculiar symptom andthe abnormity of the laboratory examination. There are no effective treatment methods because of itsunclear etiology and pathogenesis. There is profound opinion in the theory of TCM,and it is seekingafter the new effective treatment methods.Acupuncture and moxibustion has great predominance ontreating CFS,but the study on mechanism of it has not been reported. As a non-pharmacologic therapy, with its good therapeutic effect and non-toxic andnon-side-effect characteristic, acupuncture and moxibustion has great predominance on treating CFS.In recent years, many clinical reports illustrated that. Based on the clinical efficiency of treating CFSby acupuncture and moxibustion, combined with the TCM classical theory: the rat model wasinducedbycomplexstressfactorstosimulatetheclinicalmanifestationofCFS,andthenwechoosedthe representative points to carry out the acupuncture experimental research. This paper explains thepathogenesisofCFSandtheregulation mechanism of acupuncture. Methods: Wistar rats (male, weight 160-180g) were randomly distributed to control group, modelgroupsand EA group.ModelgroupsandEAgroupsincludedkidneydeficiencysyndrome.Allgroups except the control were exposed to complex stressors for 21 days, and EA groupsacceptedelectro-acupuncturetreatmentatthesame time. Thepointswereselectedforelectro-acupuncture :Baihui(GV20),Zusanli(ST36),Taixi(KI3). Results:1. Compared with control group, the model rats appearred not only physical strengthdeclining, but also hypoactivity of explore new environment and spontanous activity, which indicatedthat the model rats were on the states of both physical and mental fatigue, same as the clinicalmanifestation of CFS patients. EA could improve the behavioral disorder and markedly reverse thefatigue states of the model rats. 2. The levels of serum IL-1β,IL-6 of model group was significantly higher than those ofcontrol group.Electro-acupuncture reduced the level of serum IL-1β,IL-6 stimulated by differentstresses. 3. Spleen and thymus morphological changes was observed in model group,Electro-acupuncture may alter the influence in spleen and thymus. 4. There was active multiple mycoplasmal and HHV-6 in model group, Electro-acupuncturereducedtheinfectionrate. It indicated that EA can not only activate immune system, but also regulatenervoussystemandendocrinesystem.,improvetheresistance. Conclusion: 1. At present, more and more studies focus on the relationship of CFS andpsycho-neuro-immunologynetwork. Based on the clinical efficiency of treating CFS by acupunctureand moxibustion, combined with the TCM classical theory, the kidney deficiency syndrome ratmodel was induced by complex stress factors to simulate the clinical manifestation of CFS, and thenwe choosed the representative points to carry out the acupuncture experimental research. .It is ourpurpose that to discuss the possible way through which acupuncture has good effect in treating CFS.。 2. EA could markedly reverse the physical fatigue and the mental fatigue of the model rats, improve the fatigue state of the animals through psychosomatic regulation , and had the function ofanti-fatigueandanti-stress. 3. It is observed that EA coulddecreasethelevelsofserum IL-1β,IL-6inCFSrats.EAmayalter the morphological changes in spleen and thymus. EA can reduced the infection rate of multiplemycoplasmal and HHV-6.All of these indicated that EA can improve the function of immunesystem. It is the efficiency treatment method for CFS. |
