【Objective】To investigate clinical manifestation and laboratory indexes of polymyositis(PM) in active stage and their assessment value, and then judge the disease activity correctly.【Methods】We analyzed clinical data retrospectively of 69 patients with PM and explored the changes of clinical characters and laboratory indexes in active stage and their assessment value. 【Results】In clinical practice, tenderness and dysphasia, serum CPK>1000IU/L, high intensity lesions are observed in the T2-weighted image whereas none are seen in T1-weighted image ,the extent of muscle fibres necrosis on biopsy is obvious or severe could indicate the disease was in active stage. .Dysphasia and tenderness correlated significantly with CPK level and muscle weakness negatively correlated with it.【Conclusions】We could correctly judge the disease activity by comprehensive analysis of clinical data and laboratory examinations, which could serve as a guide to treatment. CPK was a commonly used, sensitive index and CPK>1000IU/L could judge activity rudimentarily; Muscle MRI, a non-invasive method, was a new sensitive index; Tenderness and dysphasia could be used to observe disease activity.
