Experimental Study On Concentrated Processed Fleece-Flower Root Decoction In The Treatment Of Liver Fibrosis

Objective:Hepatic fibrosis is a common response to chronic liver injury from many causes,and the common way to liver cirrhosis for many chronic liver diseases.In the researches of anti-fibrosis theraphy, traditional Chinese medicines have shown good prospects for utilization. Processed fleece-flower root(PFFR) refers to slices of fleece-flower root mixed with black soyabean decoction and steamed. Chinese pharmacopeia records it has the function of invigorating the liver and kidney,replenishing vital essence and blood,nourishing the hair and strengthening the bones and muscles. Maybe it has the effect of anti-frbrosis.The aim of this study is to evaluate PFFR's theraphy effect in rats which were induced experimental liver fibrosis and to offer the experimental basis of PFFR's functin of treating liver diseases.Methods:Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups at random:Ⅰ. normal contral group (n=10) Ⅱ. model group (n=11) Ⅲ. PFFR group (n=11). Experimental hepatic fibrosis model was induced by injecting 50% CCL4 3ml/kg body weight subcutaneously in mode group and PMT group once every three days. Rats in PFFR group were given concentrated processed fleece-flower root decoction (10ml/kg·day)at the first injection of CCl4 and continued to the end of experiment. Rats in normal contral group and model group were given distilled water from beginging to end. All rats were killed at the end of the experiment ( the ninth week). Ordinary condition, liver function,serum hysluronate acid(HA) were determined. Histopathological changes were examined by optical microscopy. Results:Compared with model group,it revealed that in PFFR-treated rats:(1) Happening ratio of ascites is lower(P<0.05).(2)Albumin(ALB) was improved (P<0.05).(3)The degree of fibrosis were reduced (P<0.05). (4) Alanine transaminase (ALT),aspartate transaminase(AST),globulin(GLB) and total bilirubin(T-BIL) have an improving tendency,but not statistically significance. Conclusions:Concentrated processed fleece-flower root decoction shows a little effect on the treatment of hepatic fibrosis induced by CCl4 in rats, for it can improve ALB,the degree of fibrosis and reduced happening ratio of ascites. But it's effect is limited. Maybe because the concentration of effective components in the decoction is lower. There is little feasibility to use processed fleece-flower root alone for treating hepatic fibrosis.
