Objective: To investigate the association between a 1562C-T mutationof Matrix Metalloprotemase-9(MMP-9) gene and macroangiopathy in type 2diabetes mellitus of Kunming. Methods: A case-control study for 1SS Kunming Han Chinese subjects (including98 type2 diabetes mellitus and 60 normal control) was performed. The number of the1562 C-T mutation alleles were determined by polymerase chain reaction andrestriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method.Remits: Frequencies of CC, CT, TT genotype are 0.73, 0.15 ,0.02 in the Hanpopulation in Kunming region .The frequencies of genotype and allele showed nosignificant difference between control groups and T2DM group(p=NS), and thefrequency of the T genotype and T allele at 1562 were significantly higher inDMA+group(with macroangiopathy) than in DMA- group(without macroangiopathy)and control subjects(X2=4.268,P=0.039; X2=5.321, P=0.021). Multivariate logisticregression analysis showed that MMP9 T allele is a important risk factor of diabeticmacroangiopathy (OR=3.57,95%CI,1.15 to11.04; p=0.027).Conclusion: The T allele of C-1562T polymorphism of MMP-9 gene is related todiabetic macroangiopathy in Kunming type 2 diabetes mellitus. The T allele may be arisk factor.
