Objective: To study the prevent effect of octreotide on the hyperamylasemia and pancretitis after ERCP(endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography,ERCP).Methods:40 patients were randomly divided into 2 groups. One concluded 20 cases which were applied with octreotide 0.3mg+5%GS500ml an hour before ERGP. 6 hours and 12hours after that,0.1mg octreotide would separately be applied again hypodermicly . The other group also concluded 20 cases, which were given 0.9% NS 500ml an hour before ERCP. And this group was neither applied with octreotide nor NS hyodemicly. The mean concentration of serum amylase before ERCP and 2h, 12h, 24h after ERCP was measured in all patients. And the abdominal pain and post-ERCP pancreatitis were also abserved .Results: the mean concentration of serum amylase at 2h, 12h, 24h after ERCP were (195.5+140.8), (243.8 + 292.5) and (172.0+ 250.0)U/L inpreventive group, and (182.0+128.9), (160.9+107.4),(l 19.2 +76.6)U/L in control group (P>0.05).There is no pancreatitis case in preventive group but 2 cases in control group. Conclusions: Prophylactic treatment with octreotide reduced the frequence of post-ERCP pancreatitis.
