| Objective: To explore the intervention of Bailin capsule on the progress of glomerulosclerosis in rats; probe into its relationship with TGF- β1.Methods: 36 healthy Wistar rats were equally divided into three groups atrandom: normal control group, progressive glomerularsclerosis group made by 5/6 nephrectomy and Bailin capsule-treated progressive glomerularsclerosis group. 9 weeks after 5/6 nephrectomy, all the rats of each group were killed, biochemistry index and urinary protein were assessed ; RT-PCR was used to examine TGF- β1 in kidney. The expression of TGF- β1 was analyzed by immuno-histochemistry.Results: Compared with the progressive glomerularsclerosis group made by 5/6nephrectomy, the serum Alb increased and cholesterin, LDL, UAE, BUN, Cr decreased in the Bailin capsule-treated group; the expression of TGF- β1 mRNA (P<0.01) and the level of TGF-β1 (P<0.05) was reduced in Bailin capsule-treated group than in progressive glomerularsclerosis group made by 5/6 nephrectomy.Conclusion: With the development of glomerulosclerosis in 5/6 nephrectomizedrats, the expression of TGF- β1 mRNA increased which indicated that TGF- β1 participated in the progress of glomerulosclerosis; the expression of TGF- β1 was significantly down - regulation with Bailin capsule intervented, and it was probably one of the mechanism of that Bailin capsule could prevent the progress of glomerulosclerosis.
