Objective : To detect the expression of a novel inhibitor gene of apoptosis survivin the inhibitor cancer gene p53 in brain glioma and their relationship with clinicpathological features .Methods: The expression of survivin and p53 was determined by immunohistochemical SASB method in 17 specimens of normal brain tissue 120 of brain glioma tissue (grade I 40 cases , grade II 40 cases , grade III-IV 40 cases). Results: l.Survivin protein was found in glioma cells not in normal brain cells, The expression increased in a grade-dependent manner(p<0.05) . The positive percentages of survivin expression in gliomas of grade I , grade II ,and grade III-IV ,were 27.5%,52.5%and 77.5%,respectively. 2. p53 protein was found in gliomas cells not in normal cells ,The expression increased in a grade-dependent manner too , The positive percentages of P53 expression in gliomas of grade I, grade II ,and grade III-IV ,were 20%,45%and 72.5%,respectively.3.The expression of survivin was positively correlated with expression of mutant type p53(p<0.01). Conclusion : Survivin expression in gliomas is positively correlated with the expression of p53 and the malignancy of gliomas .
