Objective: To discuss the theory of meridian tropism about complex prescription from NEI theory, we use the Chinese medical model and study HAFM's effects on VIP levels in brain-gut axis. Methods: we used ESDM and observed the HAFM's effects on the D-xylose content of serum, the CPK activity of muscle, VIP levels in brain-gut axis. And then we process these data with multiple correlation analysis to study the relativity between regulation of brain-gut axis and attribution to the spleen meridian. Result: (Radix Astragali)Huangqi, (Poria)Fuling and HAFM have different effects on the experiments of FSTGTAT. Huangqi and HAFM have better effects than Fuling on the above indexes, and Fuling has no effect on the CPK activity of muscle. Huangqi have a marked regulation on the level of VIP. But it is found that the changes of VIP levels in brain-gut axis are correlated with the D-xylose content of serum, the CPK activity of muscle only when Huangqi combined with Fuling. So we presume that the attribution to the spleen meridian is correlated with the regulation of brain-gut axis, and the compatibilities influence herbs' selective effects on brain-gut axis. Conclusion: The use of NEI theory and multiple correlation analysis have certain value to research the theory of meridian tropism. To some extent, the experiment offer new method for the study of the theory of meridian tropism.
