In this subject, the aim is to find the effective mechanism of acupuncture in treating depression in experimental study and explore the physiopathology mechanisms of depression further.Selecting forty-two male rats of Wistar as experimental study objects divide into six groups of 7 each by random. Except the control group all rats were singly housed and exposed chronically for 21 days to a variety of moderate unpredictable stressors to form rat model of depression. Observe depressive rats' behavioral change and choose biochemical method to observe the effect of acupuncture on Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis of depressive rats. And compare the curative effects with different therapy methods. The result show that the behavior of depressive rats was improved obviously; levels of ACTH and CORT dropped markedly after treatment. The study proved that acupuncture could improve disorder and regulate the imbalance of HPA axis responsivity of depressive rats. This experiment provided theoretical basis to clinic.
