Chronomedicine is a frontier branch of science developed recently. There are abundant summary of experience and theory discussion to this in TCM.In this paper exploratory research has been carried out to the theory of taking medicine in accordance with suitable time from two respects of theory and experiment. Among them the theoretical research part has firstly introduced the formation, development, research contents and academic achievement of chronomedicine in modern medicine and TCM. Secondly, we have carried on the systematic discussion to the thought of chronomedicine in "Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases".At last seeing that the theory of taking medicine in accordance with suitable time is an important content of chronomedicine and animal experiment is significant to the research and verification of the theory, so in the experimental research part, animal experiment of drug effect and toxicity about taking Cannabis pill in the Shichen of Chen and You to the constipation animals were carried out.The result reveals that it can raise clinical curative effect and reduce the poisonous side effect of the medicine which is taken in the Shichen of You.In conclusion, this experiment has observed a lot of indexes from two respects of drug effect and toxicity for the first time and has proved the point of view of TCM that purgative prescriptions should be taken in the afternoon to the evening. And it also provides certain scientific experiment basis for the theory of taking medicine in accordance with suitable time and future clinical application of chronotherapy in human.
