The Correlation Between The Plasma Levels Of 8-isoPGF_2a And Retinopathy Of Prematurity

Objective: To analyze the correlation between the plasma levels of 8-iso-prostaglandin F₂a and supply information of early prevention and therapy of retinopathy of prematurity.Methods: The plasma levels of 8-iso-prostaglandin F₂a was detected using ELISA method by contrasting between 40 cases of the prematures born after the 1st day, the 3rd day, the 7th day, the 14th day and the 21^th day with hyperxia mechanical ventilation and 50 control cases whose age and weight are the same as the prematures with hyperxia mechanical ventilation, periodicly observing the morphologic change of retina, then analyze the results with statistical methods.Results: 1) There were no statistical differences among the mean contents of 8-isoPGF2a during each period among control group(P>0.05). 2) The Comparison of the mean contents of 8-isoPGF₂a among the group with hyperxia mechanical ventilation appeared statistical differences(P<0.05). Among all the mean content of 8-isoPGF2a in the 7th day was the highest. 3) There were statistical differences in the comparisions of mean contents of 8-isoPGF₂a between the group with hyperxia mechanical ventilation and control group during each period(P<0.000. 4) ROP was observed in one case in the group with hyperxia mechanical ventilation.Conclusions: There is closing correlation between the plasma levels of 8-isoPGF2a and occurrencing of ROP. Plasma levels of 8-isoPGF₂a can react the extent of lipide eroxidation damage. To detect plasma level of the 8-iso-prostaglandin F₂a is important to predict ROP in earlier period and direct us to utilize effective antioxidant in time, inorder to prevent and treat ROP.
