【objective】To evaluate the expression of heparanase(Hpa) and bFGF protein inbladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC), and analyzed the relationship of Hpa &bFGF and their histopathological grade, clinical stage and recurrence.【Methods】Sixty-two randomly selected BTCC and twelve normal bladder tissuespecimens were used as experimental and control group. Hpa and bFGF protein weredetected with immunohistochemical technique. The relationship of Hpa and bFGFprotein expression with patients clinical and pathological characteristics was analyzedwith spss 11.5 for windows.【Results】1. Hpa protein was detected in 53.23%(33 of 62) of BTCC specimens, while normal bladder tissue did not express Hpa protein. Hpa expression rate in G1,G2 and G3 group was 29.41%(5 of 17), 57.14%(12 of 21) and 70.83%(17 of 24). Inmuscle-invasive and superficial tumor, Hpa expression rate was 65%(26 of 40) and31.82%(7 of 22). 76%(19 of 25) of recurrence BTCC expressed Hpa protein, while innon-recurrence group, the number was 41.18%. The difference of Hpa proteinexpression in different grade and stage is significant(p<0.05), the same in recurrenceand non-recurrence group. Relatively analysis revealed that a correlation between Hpaprotein expression and patient's clinical and pathological characteristics.2. bFGF protein was detected in 70.97%(44 of 62) of BTCC specimens, while normalbladder tissue did not express bFGF protein. bFGF expression rate in G1, G2 and G3group was 47.06%(8 of 17), 76.19%(16 of 21) and 83.33%(20 of 24). Inmuscle-invasive and superficial tumor, bFGF expression rate was 82.50%(33 of 40)and 50.00%(11 of 22). 84%(21 of 25) of recurrence BTCC expressed bFGF protein, while in non-recurrence group, the number was 52.94%. The difference of bFGFprotein expression in different grade and stage is significant(p<0.05), the same inrecurrence and non-recurrence group. Relatively analysis revealed that a correlationbetween bFGF protein expression and patient's clinical and pathologicalcharacteristics.3. Kaplan-Meie survival analysis and Log Rank Test show that the recurrence timeafter operations is longer in Hpa & bFGF positive group than that of negativegroup(p<0.05).4. Relatively analysis revealed that there is positive correlation between theexpression of Hpa and bFGF protein.【Conclusions】1. Heparanase and bFGF protein was overexpressed in BTCC. Thereis positive correlation between heparanase & bFGF protein expression and patient'sclinical and pathological characteristics.2. There is positive correlation between the expression of Hpa and bFGF protein inBTCC.3. Heparanase can be used as an important marker for the invasive of BTCC.
