Objective: To relieve the pain and prevent the artificial abortion syndrome without the anesthetist's cooperation. Methods: 240 cases of abortion were randomly divided into two groups. All of them were in ASA grade I~II, 6~10 weeks gestation. 7ml of diluted lidocaine carbonate(1.73% lidocaine carbonate 5ml + sterilized Saline 5ml) was poured into the uterine cavity while 3ml into the 3,6,9 point of paracervix(each 1ml) for the 120 cases in test group. 120 cases in control group were only operated with cervical dilator. Results: The pain in the test group was apparently slight than that of the control's, only 2cases of artificial abortion syndrome were occurred, which was lower than that in control group. There were no statistic significations in cardiac rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation between pre and post operation. But in the control group, the post-operative heart rate was statistically lower than pre-operative cardiac rate, and the recovery was slow. For the blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation was the same as that in the test group. Conclusions: Lidocaine carbonate can be widely used in artificial abortion through the out-patient departments or the primary hospitals in which have no anesthetist's cooperation. The operation is simple, safe, it can relieve the pain efficiently, and can prevent the artificial abortion syndrome.
