Objective To explore whether The functional single nucleotide polymorphism(SNPs) of the NRG-1 gene (Arg38Gln) was associated with the The P300 of schizophrenic patients. Methods The P300 (auditory oddball) at the electrodes Fz, Cz, and Pz was recorded in 60 patients with schizophrenia. The Neuregulin-l(NRG-l) Arg38Gln polymorphism was investigated by PCR-RFLP. Results The P300 latency at the electrodes Cz, and Pz was significant different among the there subgroups of genotype(P=0.044, P=0.046). The longer P300 latent at the electrodes Cz, and Pz was occurred in the carriers of Arg/Arg than the ones of Gln/Gln(P =0.021, P = 0.041). Moreover, there was significant differences between genotype Arg/Gin and Gln/Gln at electrodes Cz(P=0.038). The educational level was negatively correlated with the P300 latency(P<0.05). the frequency of genotypes and alleles of schizophrenic patients coming from Kunming, compared with ones from other territories was found to be statistical significance(P<0.0001). Conclusions NRG-1 Arg38Gln functionalpolymorphism is possibly associated with the cognitive deviation of schizophrenic patients. The educational level is negatively correlated with P300 latency. There are maybe significant differences among the frequency of genotype and allele in schizophrenic patients coming from Taiwan, Kunming and northern inland of China.
