[Objective] To investigate the expressions and of adrenomedullin(ADM) and microvessel density(MVD) and their relationships ininvasive carcinoma of cervix ,and their correlation with clinicalparameters to definite the clinical significance of ADM . [Methods]Expression of ADM and MVD (labeled by CD34) in 10 cases ofnormal cervical epithelium (NCE), 13 cases of cervical intraepithelialneoplasm (CIN)III and 43 cases of early invasive carcinoma of cervix(ICC) were detected by immunohistochemistry SP methods. Allpatients had not received any chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatmentfor prior to surgery. Normal cervical tissues were from benign diseases, such as uterine leiomyoma ,adenomyosis and uterine prolapse.[Results] MVD and the rates of positive expression of ADMincreased remarkably from NCE to CIN-III, and then to ICC ,accordingly , and the differences among the three groups havestatistical significance (p<0.01) . In ICC , there were significantrelationships between the expression of MVD and pelvic lymphnodemetastasis , histological grading(p<0.01), but no relationships withpatients'ages , FIGO staging, tumor volumes , histological types ,and stromal infiltration(p>0.05); ADM has significant relationshipswith tumor volumes, pelvic lymphnode metastasis and FIGO staging(p<0.01), but no relationships with patients'ages , histologicalgrading, histological types and stromal infiltration(p>0.05). Theexpression of MVD related to the rates of positive expression ofADM , significantly(p<0.01). [Conclusion] In the cervicalcarcinoma, ADM may pays an important role in tumorangiogenesis, cancer invasion and metastasis . Detection of ADM is ofvalue in further understanding of the biological behavior and inpredicting the prognosis of cervical carcinoma.
