Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae ,widely distributed in many places of China except for Northeast China, is known as a kind of Chinese traditional tonic herb and has many important biological activities , such as anti-fertility, anticancer, antibacterial, immune adjustment and anti-inflammatory activities. The constituents in Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae include triterpenoid saponins, polysaccharides, steroids, etc. The extraction and separation of steroid and triterpenoid saponin compounds from Radix Achyranthis bidentatae are carried out in this paper. Through using solvent extraction and column chromatography were 6 compounds isolated from Radix Achyranthis bidentatae. The structures of these compounds are elucidated by physico-chemical constants and spectroscopic analysis. They are: (2 β,3 β,5 β,22R)-2,3,5,14,20,22,25-heptahydroxy-cholest-7-en-6 -one(A); (2β,3β,5β,22R)-2,3,14,20, 22, 25-hexahydroxy-cholest-7-en-6-one(B); (2β,3β,5β,22R)-2,3,20,22,25–pentahydroxy-cholesta-8,14-dien-6-one(C); 3-O-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester(E); 3-O-β-D -glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester(F). Compounds A,B,E,F have been reported, and compound C is new.
