"The theory of three kinds of etiologic factors" has always been the central theory of the etiology of Chinese Medicine. Its development experienced the bud of Emperor's Canon of Medicine, further development of Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, until the formal establishment of Chen Yan's Discussion of Pathology Based on the Triple-Etiology Doctrine in Song Dynasty. During this period, although with twists and turns, it returned to laconism from erudition and set forth its "Three kinds of etiologic factors" argument at last, which reflecting the prevision and restriction on etiologic system placed by traditional culture.Etiology of Chinese Medicine takes world view of the relationship between human body and environment as guidance, takes differential diagnosis aiming at the etiology as its main practical method, among which "six evils" theory absorbs the "observing objects and achieving images" imagery thought of traditional philosophy, and interprets etiology through six kinds of climate changes, and "seven modes of emotions" theory summarizes seven modes of emotions causing the body disease, taking "The relationship between physique and mind" conception of holism as purpose and gathering lots of successful experiences in clinic. Traditional etiology concentrates six evils while neglecting seven modes of emotions, but it maybe omit "etiologic factors neither endogenous nor exogenous" much more.
