| Objective Iodine is a kind of trace elements necessary to people as far as the health is concerned. It has greatly physiological significance because it is one of the components in thyroxin. Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) will bring a series of hazards to the body, even influence the development of mentality.For solve this public health problem, universal salt iodisation (USI) is used to eliminate IDD and gains notable success, incidence of hypothyroid disease descends to low level. But the incidence elevates again in recent years. Large numbers of epidemiological research indicates that iodine excess can increase the prevalence of iodine-induce hyperthyoridism, autoimmune thyroid diseases, hypothyroidism, goiter and papillary thyroid cancer.While the current remedies complementing iodine are mainly composed of inorganic iodine- potassium iodate and potassium iodide that has some limitation to a certain extent, at the same time almost all the inorganic iodine is imported from foreign country and costs a lot of foreign exchange. It is one of the hottest points to find highly efficient, safe, stable, new iodine preparations and to realitythe ideal of complementing iodine scientifically.The bioactive iodine combined with amino acid - 3,5diiodotrysine (DIT) is extracted from the kelp, which has the largest content of iodine. The technology of extraction and purification is confirmed. The method to measure bioactive iodine is set up and the pilot study of its complementing effect on white rat.Methods The conditions influencing extracting of.bioactive iodine such as different methods of pre-treatment, time, temperature and so on are discussed. Then the best conditions of extraction are confirmed. It is also found that there is the maximal absorption at the wavelength of 221nm for the normal DIT. A line connected the optical density and the concentration of solution. So the method depending on the ultraviolet spectrophotometer is set up to measure the content of DIT directly.Two experiments are set up on white rat. The first experiment has 7 groups: three groups for DIT, Three groups for KI and a normal group. One month later, study the biochemical indices, radio immunity indices of blood serum, urinary iodine, weigh thyroid and HE dying, researching the security of DIT. The second experiment has 9 groups: three groups for DIT, Three groups for KI, normal group, model group and cure group. Produce hyperthyroidism model for all the groups, One month later, study the biochemical indices, radio immunity indices of blood serum, urinary iodine, weigh thyroid and HE dying, researching the protective action to hyperthyroidism model of DIT.Experimental results On the first study, at the same dose, the damage of DIT is less than KI on antioxidase, thyroid hormone and pathologic changes of hypothyroid. On the second study, under the same condition of hyperthyroidism, we can get the same results like the first experiment.Conclusion DIT has more security than KI under the condition of iodine excess; DIT has protective action under the hyperthyroidism condition. In short, the organic iodine in kelps has excellent and safe effect, it is a new type of iodine supplement as to achieve the aim to supply with iodine scientifically, it will have more positive achievement to people's health if improved development and application are carried out on kelps. |
