Abstract/Summary:
Chronic superficial gastritis (CSG) is a commonly and frequently encountered disease of digestive system. Its course is long in clinic and it is often recurrent. It delays long and hard to recover. This disease pertains to the categories of "abdominal mass", "gastric upset", "gastric abscess" and etc. in TCM. Now Western medicine has gotten some certain curative effect in the symptomatic treatment of CSG while TCM makes much progress in the clinic therapy guiding with its specially idiomatical theory. After many years' clinic practice and observation, my tutor found that eating and drinking without temperance, hurt by bad emotion, suffering with exogenous evil and etc. will lead to damage of spleen and stomach, hoisting disharmony of middle state, stagnation of stomach-QI, blockage of humidity and ecchymosis. All of above-mentioned causes this disease, which is deficient in substance and excessive in appearance, meanwhile mixed with excess and deficiency. Curing both appearance and substance is the direction in TCM. According to the principle of curing spleen and stomach that is based on harmony and taking unblocked transmission as normal functional state, my tutor established the recipe of WeiYouTang (WYT) combining with his own experiences. This recipe invigorates the spleen and dispels humidity, attempers the stomach and promotes digestion, regulates the flow of Qi and relieves flatulence, promotes blood circulation and arrests pain. It also can protect the gastric mucosa and eliminate or mitigate the clinical symptom—which embody the TCM's academic thought of combining differentiation of symptoms and signs with differential diagnosis of diseases.Seventy patients were involved in this research and were randomly allocated to two groups: thirty-five cases (therapeutic group) were treated with WYT and thirty-five cases (antithetical group) with western medicines. The two groups administered the two recipes respectively according to the regimen: routine administration and continuing four weeks as a period. The whole research lasts one period. And the therapy results were assessed according to the improvement of clinical symptoms , the examination of gastroscopy and biopsy , the eradication and suppression rate of Helicobacter Pylori (Hp). The results indicate: in the therapeutic group, the total effective rate was 88.57 %, a significant difference with the antithetical group (68.57%). Concerning symptomatic effects, therapeutic group can obviously improve most of the symptoms. The improvement of anorexia is extremely better than the antithetical group (p<0.01). Its effects are much better on such symptoms as stomachache, discomfort of pressing nether xiphoid, abnormity of coated tongue , pulse and stool than the antithetical group(p<0.05) while others were no statistic meaning. The effective rates of gastroscopy in two groups were 94.29%, 85.71% respectively while 91.42%, 80.00% in pathology. No significant differences between the two groups were found (p>0.05) .The eradication rates of Hp in two groups were 28.13%, 33.33% respectively while 78.13%, 84.85% in active-suppression rates. There were no obviously differences in the eradication and active-suppression rates(p>0.05).Conclusions: the method of invigorates the spleen and dispels humidity , regulating the flow of Qi and promoting blood circulation inherits the TCM's therapeutic thought of curing both appearance and substance. The representative recipe—WYT has certain effect on improving the macroscopic symptom and micro index. It deserves further research and spreading as a special recipe.
