Objective To explore the difference in the cognition function between Alzheimer's disease patients and healthly aged controls. To investigate the association beween the cholesteryl ester transfer protein(CETP) TaqlB polymorphism and blood lipid profile, Alzheimer's disase,the patient's cognition function.Methods This was a case-control study,which enrolled 100 cases with Alzheimer' disease and 102 healthy controls.All the objects were measured with mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and Hachinski ischemic score (HIS),at the same time,49 mild-to-modetate patients with AD and 61 healthy controls were measured with Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) and Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST). Polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP)was used to determine CETP-TaqIB gene polymorphism.Results 1.The CETP-TaqlB genotype frequencies of AD patients were B1B1 35%, B1B2 48% and B2B2 17%; the CETP-TaqIB genotype distribution in the subjects with the nonnol control were B1B1 30.4%,B1B2 53.9% and B2B2 16.7%. There was no significant association in CETP-TaqIB genotype and allele distribution between AD patients and the healthy controls (p>0.05). There were no differences among different genotype in the level of TG,HDL,TC. 2.The scores of Wechsler Memory Scale and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test in AD patients were obvioysly lower than that in normal controls (p< 0.01, p<0.05).The regression analysis showed that there were positive correlations between the score of MMSE and Memory Quotient (MQ),Complete classification numbers in AD patients.The trend of negative correlation was found between the level of serum TC and MQ, Complete classification number,but no statistically significance (p>0.05).3. In the study population, there was no significant difference in the score of WMS among CETP-TaqIB B1B1 genotype,B1B2genotype and B2B2 genotype, but B2 allel gene had higher score than B1B1gentype, and there was obvious difference; Complete classification number was gradually reduced among the three genotypes, Sustained response was gradually increased,but there were no obvious differences.Conclusion The increased serum cholesterol might be associated with AD. There was not obvious correlation between CETP-TaqIB gene polymorphism and Alzheimer's disease. CETP-TaqIB polymorphism might not be associated with the blood lipid profile. CETP-TaqIB polymorphism might be associated with long-term memory in elder people, not with instantaneous memory and short-term memory; there were not different among CETP-TaqIB genotypes in WCST. Executive function wasn't influencd by CETP-TaqIB polymorphism.
