Objective:To find a new way of curing periodontitis through investigating the influence of He-Ne laser on porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg) and to provide the basic experimental reasch for the future utilization of He-Ne laser on periodontitis. Methods: porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg) were irradiated by the He-Ne laser which had a power output of 6.3mW.Firstpart:The bacterials of Pg were separated into 6 groups which including 5 experimental groups and 1 negetive control group.The experimental groups were irradiated with He-Ne laser(wavelength:632.8nm,power of output:6.3mW)for different time(16mins 32mins 48mins 64mins 80mins).Second Part:The bacterials of Pg were divided into 4 groups including 3 experimental groups and 1 negetive control group.One of the experimental groups was irradiated by the He-Ne laser but with no photosensitizer;The other group was used with photosensitizer but was not irradiated by the He-Ne laser; the remaining group was treated with conjunction of He-Ne laser and photosensitizer.Living bacterials of Pg were counted after treated.The morphological changes of Pg were observed by transmission electron Microscope and scanning electron microscope. Result:part one: 1.The amount of living bacterials:There is no significent differences before and after irradiated by the He-Ne laser for different time(P>0.05). 2.transmission electron microscope:The longer time the bacterials were exposed under the He-Ne laser,the more significent shrinkage was taken placed, part two: 1.The amount of living bacterials:the group used in conjunction of He-Ne laser and photosensitizer had significant differences from other groups(P<0.01 ).2.Scanningelectron microscope:The bacterials of group used in conjunction of He-Ne laser andphotosensitizer were shrinkaged obviously ,some were even died,but the other twogroups of bacterials maintained the nomal form.Conclusion:There is no significant inhibition or killing effect on the bacterials of Pgusing the He-Ne laser simplly,but the conjunct using of He-Ne laser andphotosensitizer can inhibit and kill the bacterials obviously.
