Objective: To study the effect of certain micronutrients on androgen level elevation and anti-oxidation in male mice induced by D-galactose.Methods:1. Grouping:Sixty ICR male mice were randomly divided into two groups according to their weights: 12 in the normal control group and 48 in the senile model group.2. Establishing the senile model:The mice in the senile model group were given D-galactose through subcutaneous injection and the ones in the control group injected equal 0.9% sodium chloride once per day. All of them had common feedstuff and drank water freely. Weighed the mice every week and last for eight weeks. Make sure that the model will be successful according to the activity of GSH-Px and SOD in the blood.3. Experiments:According to their serum androgen level, the senile model group was furtherdivided into four subgroups: androgen group;micro-nutrient group;micronutrient androgen group and model-control group. The mice in the four groups were treated with testosterone, micronutrients preparation, testosterone plus micronutrients preparation and distilled water, respectively. Micronutrients preparation was given through lavage, daily, while testosterone being injected subcutaneously once a week. The mice in the four groups had common feedstuff and drank water freely .Weighed them once a week. The following indices were observed four weeks later: the serum androgen level, the activity of GSH-Px and SOD in lung, liver, brain and heart.Results.-1. The effect of micronutrients to the serum androgen of the senile male mice induced by D-galactose: The serum androgen levels of the senile mice in the three experimental were higher after the experiment than that before the experiment, and there was significant difference between the micro-nutrient group and the micronutrient androgen group (P<0.05).The serum androgen level of the senile mice in the model control group changed insignificant difference.2. The anti-oxidation effect of micronutrients on the senile male mice induced by D-galactose: The GSH-Px activities of the senile mice in the micro-nutrient group were higher than those in the model control group, and there was significant difference between the micronutrient group and the model control group in the lung, heart and brain (P<0.05 );The SOD activities in the homogenate in the heart and brain had statistically higher than those in the model control group (PO.05) .Conclusions:1. vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and selenium displayed positive effect on increasing serum androgen level of the senile male mice induced by D-galactose.2. vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and selenium could improve theGSH—Px activity of the senile male mice induced by D-galactose.3. vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and selenium could improve the SOD activity of the senile male mice induced by D-galactose.
