Objective It has been suggested that lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor-1(LYVE1) and CD44 has played an important role in many human malignancies. However, theprecise role hae not been known in development and metastasis of endometrial carcinoma. In thisstudy, we measured the density of lymphatic vessels with the marker LYVEl and the density oftumor CD44 in the endometrial carcinoma.Method The expression of LYVEl and the levels of CD44 in 56 cases of endometrial carcinoma(EC) tissues, 10 cases of atypical hyperplasia endometial (AH) tissues and 16 cases of normal endometrium(NE) tissues were investigated by immunohistochemistry using antibodies directed against LYVE1 and CD44.Results (1)Lymphatic vessels were found in all zones of EC, NE and AH. The density of lymphatic vessels were 19.62±6.64 in EC, 21.13±3.68 in AH, 22.54±6.05 in NE. There were no significant differences between them(P>0.05),but in different zones of EC,the density of edge zones(35.67 ± 3.62) were higher than AH and NE(P<0.01), however, the density of center zones(4.46±1.81) were lower than AH and NE(P<0.01).(2)The density of edge zones in nodal metastasis were higher than no nodal metastasis(P<0.01).MLD was not related with other clinico-pathological characteristic of EC(P>0.05). (3)The levels of CD44 in EC were higher than in AH (P<0.05). The levels of CD44 in EC were higher than in NE{P<0.01}. The levels in AH were higher than in NE(P<0.01).(4)The expression of CD44 in nodal metastasis was higher than no nodal metastasis(P<0.05). CD44 was not related with other clinico-pathological characteristic of EC(P>0.05).Conclusion (1) The density of lymphatic vessels in edge zones in nodal metastasis were higher than in no nodal metastasis suggested that tumor should induce the creation of lymphatic vessels and the lymphatic vessels in different zones of tumor should play an different role .(2) The expression of CD44 in nodal metastasis was higher than no nodal metastasis.
