Objective: To assess the changes of left and right ventricular function in children with viral myocarditis using Doppler Tei index. Methods Left and right ventricular Tei index,Isovolumic relaxation time(IRT),Isovolumic contraction time(ICT),Ejection time(ET),Ejection fraction(EF),Fractional Shortening(FS),E/A were calculated with ALOKA SSD-5500 ultrasonic system in 150 normal children and 100 children with viral myocarditis . Results 1. There are not significant difference in the left ventricular Ejection fraction (EF),Fractional Shortening (FS) and E/A of left ventricular between the children with viral myocarditis and normal children (P>0.05). 2. There are not significant difference in the right ventricular Ejection fraction (EF),Fractional Shortening (FS) and E/A between the children with viral myocarditis and normal children (P>0.05). 3. The left ventricular Tei index (LV-Tei),Isovolumic relaxation time (LV-IRT) and Isovolumic contraction time (LV-ICT) are both higher in the children with viral myocarditis than in the normal children (P<0.01). The Ejection time (LV-ET) is lower in the children with viral myocarditis than in the normal children (P<0.05). 4. The right ventricular Tei index (RV-Tei),Isovolumic relaxation time (RV-IRT) and Isovolumic contraction time (RV-ICT) are both higher in the children with viral myocarditis than in the normal children (P<0.01). The Ejection time (RV-ET) is lower in the children with viral myocarditis than in the normal children (P<0.01). Conclusions...
