Objective: To try to normalize the way to treat the primary hypertension and to assess the effect of Chinese massage on primary hypertension and to explore the plausible mechanism for Chinese massage on lowering blood pressure. Methods: The study is a prospective, randomized and controlled clinical trail. Sixty cases with mild primary hypertension, differentiated as hyperactivity of Liver-yang type, were allocated equally to two groups. The controlled group were treated with Nifedipine and the experimental group were treated with Chinese massage manipulations on the head , neck and back. The following measurements were taken at the start and the end of the treatment: blood pressures, heart rate, symptoms, blood fat, blood sugar, ET,NO and CGRP. Result: Blood pressure reductions were sizable in both groups ,and the improvement of the clinical symptom was significantly greater for the experimental group than for controlled group. In the experimental group, blood fat and sugar were all lower, and Hemorrheology were eviated obviously. The level of the ET and NO were lower and CGRP went up obviously compared at the start and the end of the treatment in both group, the changes were significantly. Conclusion: Chinese massage can lower the blood pressure obviously, improve the sufferer's clinical symptom, and decline to flatten steady and safety. The plausible mechanism lies in that Chinese massage may improve the function of endothelium to synthesis and release more NO , less ET and more CGRP to relax periphral small arteries. Meanwhile, Chinese massage may also decrease thevascular reactivity caused by endothelium-derived contracting factors.
