Objective To evaluate the clinical value of the Magnetic resonance angiography in the diagnosis of the portal venous hypertension. Material and Methods 15 volunteers and 27 portal hypertensive patients were performed with contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance Portal venography(MRP).The diameter of the main portal vein(MPV)splenic vein(SPV), and the superior mesentery vein (SMV) were measured. Phase contrast (PC) method to measure the flow velocity, amount, and direction.ResuIt (l)The PTH group showed the grade II -III levelangio, inferior to the control group, (X~2=10.76,p<0.01).collateral circulation were well demonstrated on CPH cases.(2)MPV ,SPV,SMV diameters are enlarged, the flow rate is reduced ,and the amount of the PV blood increased in the CPH groups.(3)The cases with esophageal hemorrhage have high PV flow, (t=3.72,p<0.05).Conclusion MRP is an accurate, comprehensive ,invasive method to imaging the whole portal system with its collaterals and is important to surgical decision of portal hypertension. Flow measurement in the portal venous show promise for evaluating patients with esophageal varices.
