Objective To summarize the experience in prevention of iatrogenic bile duct injury. Methods Clinical data of 11 patients with iatrogenic bile duct injury in our department and two hospitals of YongKang from January 2001 to December 2005 were analyzed retrospectively. Result The main cause of iatrogenic bile duct injury was wrong identifying the anatomy of the Calot triangle before cholecystectomy accounting for 81.8% (9/11) .Diagnosis depended on clinical features and imaging examination .MRCP was among the most sensitive diagnostic means(diagnostic rate =100%).Ablating common hepatic duct and common bile duct partly was most common in clinical practice 55.6%(6/11).Bile duct end to end anastomosis or Roux-en-Y bile duct-jejunostomy or endoscopic treatment were used in these 11 cases.The average follow up time was 2.2 years (4 months to 5 years) in 11 cases.The approprate management of bile duct injuries depends on the time of diagnosis after the injury and the type of injury. The eutherapeutic rate was 100%.Conclusion With good surgical expertise iatrogenic bile duct injury could be repaired by a variety of methods with a satisfactory results.
