Objective: to structure the model of acute carbon monoxid poisoning in rats .evaluate the effectiveness of the poisoning on the pulmonary function and the significance of carbon monoxide hemoglobin in diagnosis of ARDSMethods: eighty heathy adult male wistar rats were randomized into 4 groups.one contrast group and three model groups. According to the concentration of CO (0.05%,0.1%,0.2%) , poisoning group was randomized into three groups(eath group=20 ), group A,B,C .when the models of acute carbon monoxide poisoning were established , samples of arterial blood were collected rapidly for the measurements of arterial blood gas analysis and carboxyhemoglobin. ,opening the thoraxes and fetching the lung tissue in the same position of both sides to observe pathological changes. The control group was also transacted similarly .By the pathological changes, the models were divided into two groups, one is ARDS and the other is non-ARDS ,Finally, comparing with the results and observing the relationship of the results. Results: The plasma level of HbCO was markedly higher in ARDS group than in control group(p<0.05, p=0.013 ).With the ascend of it there was a corresponding descent of the plasma level of PaO2 . By the pathological changes,17 models were finally diagnosed as ARDS.A statistically significant difference occurred in the mean level of PaO2 and HbCO to diagnose ARDS.Conclutions:Acute carbon monoxide poisoning leads to ARDS, there was a positive correlation between plasma levels of Hbco and PaO2. Carbon monoxidehemoglobin is more accurate to diagnose ARDS than arterial oxygen pressure..
