Report On The Application Of Air-fluidized Beds To Treat Large Area Burn Patients

Objective: To investigate the curative effect of applying air-fluidized bed to treat large area burn patients with the dry-heat and suspension and alkalinous bacteriostatic action of air-fluidized bed.Methods: 45 large area burn patients were enrolled in the study and were divided into experiment (A, n=22) and control (B, n=23) groups between 2004.7 and 2006.1. A group burn area is 64.76士12.55% ; B group burn area is 62.60士14.23 % .They had no significant deviation and statistically significant to compare. A group were treated with air-fluidized while those in B group were treated with ordinary soft-pad bed. Exception of the types of the bed, both groups had the same treat program, such as: anti-shock with transfusion, anti-infection and nutritional support. Patients in the A group had the supine position during 2 to 4 weeks and keep the head up from 20 to 35 degree. We accommodated the temperature between 28 oC to 36 oC according to the condition of patients and changed dressing every 2 to 4 days while the patient had the side-lying position. After 2 to 4 weeks, we rolled down the air-fluidized bed when the raw surface was healed. Patients in B group replaced position (backlying positon, lateral position, pronation) in turn every 2 to 4 hours after 48 hours post-burn and assisted with light support to keep body warm. Patients in B group were changed dressing every 1 to 2 days.
