Objective To investigate the distribution of N5, N10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutation among the cerebral hemorrhage ,cerebral infarction and the normal individuals in young adults, its affection in serum folic , vitamin B12 and homocysteine, and the relativity of descendiblity in young adult stroke. To analyze the relationship between the hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) and traditional risk factor in stroke .To find the new prophyloxis means for the stroke in young adults. Methods MTHFR gene C677T mutation was analyzed by PCR-RFLP technology, the fast plasma homocysteine(Hcy) was detected by high performance liquid chromatography method, the concentration of serum folic acid and vitamin B12 were measured by chemiluminescent method, serum lipids ,glucose, hepatic and renal function were detected by routine methods in 107 patients with cerebral hemorrhage(A group,47 patients) or cerebral infarction(B group, 60 patients) and 59 normal individuals. Results (1)The mean fast plasma Hcy concentration in case A and B group were 23.38±10.37 μ mol/l and 21.76±9.04 μ mol/l respectively, higher than that of the normal group 11.37±5.17 μ mol/l (P < 0.01) ,but it is equal between A and B. (2) In case A and B , 68.09% and 66.67% patients had HHcy respectively(P >0.01) ,but it is equal between A and B, both significantly higher than that of normal group which was 5.05% (P < 0.01). (3) The serum folic acid concentration of A and B group were 4.87±2.38ng/ml and 3.77±2.18ng/ml respectively, lower than 6.87±1.38ng/ml in normal group, and the serum vitamin B12 also has such difference (P < 0.01) .
