Objective: By observing and analyzing the effects of different internal fixation, including mini-shape memory alloy claspers and mini-plates, intersecting Kirschner wires respectively, to evaluate which method has more advantages and provide evidence for use mini-shape memory alloy claspers treating complicated metacarpal fractures. Methods: From September 2003 to December 2005, 45 cases of complicated metacarpal fractures (AO classification) were randomized into 3 groups and were fixed at mini-shape memory alloy claspers (Group A) or mini-plates (Group B) or intersecting Kirschner wires (Group C). The clinical results of the 3 groups were documented and compared in the followed aspects: operation time, healing time, complications, the hand functions at the postoperative 4th and 12th weeks. Results: All the cases were followed up for an average 4.8 months (2 to 14 months). (1) Metacarpophalangeal joint function: According to the Total Active Flexion Scale (TAFS), the excellent and good rate of hand function was 90.48% in Group A, 88.89% in Group B and 58.82% in Group C at the postoperative 4th week. There were no statistical significance between Group A and Group B (P>0. 05), while statistical significance lied between Group A and Group C, Group B and Group C (P<0. 05); At the postoperative 12th week, the excellent and good rate of hand...
