ObjectiveTo investigate the method using the shape memory alloy compressor as internal fixed devices treatment for the ulan olecranon fracture, comparing with the shape memory alloy compressor and Kirschner wire (K-wire)fixation in the treatment the ulan olecranon fracture and analyse the effect of the shape memory alloy compressor.MethodsFrom Mar. 2005 to Jan. 2007, we collected the patients of the ulan olecranon fracture in total of 41 cases, each solution to be chosen based on different internal fixation devices according to patients' different requirements, operated on in Hubei TCM hospital and Wuhan general hospital of PLA. K-wire fixation was used in 20 cases and the shape memory alloy compressor in 21 Cases, After operation, take normal precautions against infection and medication treatment such as stanching bleeding, boosting fracture healing and no need outside fixes; The recovering training program should be proceeded individually based on each specific and personality.ResultsA1I patients were followed up. Mean following up was 8 (6~24) months. Elbow fuction was evalluated with the guigen pang's. There were no significant difference in mean age, the type of sex and fracture, operation duration, clinical healing duration and bleeding amount in both groups (P>0.05).Compared about the the shape memory alloy compressor and Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation in the function of the elbow, after 3 months, the shape memory alloy compressor sets was excellent in 11 cases, good in 8 cases, acceptable in 2 cases, and poor in 0 case. so the good-excellent rate in 90.48%; Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation was excellent in 10 cases, good in 7 cases, acceptable in 2 cases, and poor in 1 cases, so the good-excellent rate in 85.00%. Thus, after statistics, which reflects no obvious difference on the elbow recovering.After 6 months, the shape memory alloy compressor sets was excellent in 14 cases, good in 6 cases, acceptable in 1 cases, and poor in 0 case. so the good-excellent rate in 95.24%; Kirschner wire (K-wire)fixation was excellent in 12 cases, good in 6 cases, acceptable in 2 cases, and poor in 0 cases, so the good-excellent rate in 90.00%. Thus, after statistics, which reflects no obvious difference on the elbow recovering.ConclusionBoth the shape memory alloy compressor and Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation are the effective method for the ulan olecranon fracture.
