Objective: To investigate the relationships between polymorphism of Esophageal Cancer Related Gene (ECRG2) Short Tandem Repeat (STR) and susceptibility. of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinomas in Kazakh and Han in Xinjiang. Methods: ECRG2 genotypes were detected by PCR-SSCP in 178 case of esophageal carcinomas (94 of Kazakh'and 84 of Han') and 153 blood samples from control population (100of Kazakh'and 53 of Han') in high incidence area of ESCC of xinjiang. Statistical evaluation was performed with theχ2 test; P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. The risk of esophageal cancer was measured by the odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). All analysis was carried out with Statistical Products & Service Solutions software (Version 11.0)Result: The frequencies of ECRG2 STR genotypes, TCA3/TCA3,TCA4/TCA4,TCA3/TCA4 were 47.8%,8.7%,43.5% and 67.9%,7.1%,25.0% in Kazakh'and Han'esophageal carcinomas with metastasis, and 14.1%,38.0%,47.9.0% and 14.3%,44.6%,41.1% in Kazakh'and Han'carcinomas without metastasis respectively. There is a significant difference between the group with with metastasis and without metastasis(Kazakh':χ2=13.77, df=2,P<0.01;Han':χ2=26.183,df=2,P<0.01).Compared to those carring the TCA4/TCA4 genotype population, subjects that carried the TCA3/TCA3 genotype were at an increased risk of ESCC with the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) being 4.06 (95% CI ,1.69-9.74) in Kazakh and 3.25[95% confidence interval (CI),1.25-8.45] in Han, respectively.
