Aims The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of CSII treatment on theβ-cell functionality and insulin resistance for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients by observing the variance of first-phase and second-phase insulin response before and after 1 week CSII, 2 week CSII and 2 week MSII treatment. Methods The 53 newly diagnosed typed 2 diabetic patients were randomly divided into three groups: (1)17 patients with one week's intensive CSII treatment. (2)20 patients with two weeks'intensive CSII treatment. (3)16 patients with two week's MSII treatment. Before and after the treatment, the Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test (IVGTT) and Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) were conducted to get the Acute Insulin Response (AIR), Insulin Area under Curve (INSAUC) and Sensitivity of Insulin-Mediated (SIM). Based on these results, we evaluated the improvement ofβ-cell functionality and insulin resistance before and after the treatment. Results For the group with one week's CSII treatment, significant differences were observed for AIR with P<0.01 and INSAUC with P<0.001 before and after the treatment. The SIM was not observed significantly different with P>0.05. For the group with two week's CSII treatment, significant difference were observed for AIR with P<0.01 and INSAUC with P<0.001 and SIM with P<0.01. For the group with two week's MSII treatment, AIM and SIM were not observed significant different with P>0.05 and P>0.05 separately. INSAUC was observed significantly different with P<0.05.Conclusion With 2 week's short term intensive CSII treatment, the first-phase and second-phase insulin secretion ofβ-cell for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients were observed improved. The decrease of insulin resistance was also observed with this treatment. With 1 week's short term intensive CSII treatment, the first-phase and second-phase insulin...
